In a word

An unprecedented prevention and warning system that enhances hydro safety and protects water users.

The project

In 2018, EDF Hydro SO issued a call for project proposals to enhance the safety of water users downstream of the Auzat hydro plant. Up until then, no effective solutions had been found.

A solution has been developed by the Capounta’SUR team! It comes in the form of an interactive and self-powered pillar, capable of detecting changes in water level, of immediately informing the plant by text message, and by warning bathers, fishermen, etc. of imminent danger by using audible and luminous warnings, and by dyeing the river water a different colour.

The dual-purpose Capounta’SUR innovation blends into the environment. When it is not issuing its highly effective evacuation announcements, it teaches the population about water- course hazards by means of a built-in tactile tablet while promoting tourist offerings in the region.

Delivering high levels of performance, this evolutive system which is easy to install and maintain, whilst also being positively perceived by all regional stakeholders, makes Capounta’SUR easy to use in places where "traditional" preventive measures (signs, barriers) would not be effective. It is the ultimate solution for making water courses safe, not only for EDF but also for other customers including other utilities, authorities and communities!

Why is this a game changer ?

From 5/5 to 2/5
The Capounta site’s hazard rating dropped from 5/5 to 2/5.
0
swimming accidents in the area.
100%
safety rate for water users.
100%
of sites potentially placing water users at risk are now safe.
100% stakeholder satisfaction rate:
local partners, water users, environmentalists, hydro plants.
